Barcelona (Barca) is not too far away (2 hours drive or bus to Figueres and then
train to Barca). This makes an excellent excursion for a day or more.
Barca is one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Visit the myriad
of shops, parks, restaurants, night clubs, museums and art galleries. Of
course a visit to Barca has to include an hour or two, people-watching, on the
Rambla. While on the Rambla, visit the food market. The pride of the
Catalans is also exhibited in the way they display their food.

Girona, just one hour drive from Cadaques, is also a beautiful city. In recent years, it has been consistently voted, by the Spanish, as one of the most desirable cities in Spain in which to live. You will have to discover yourself why.
A trip to Spain, cannot exclude a visit to some wineries to taste the wine. Emporda is the local wine area around Cadaques. It was traditionally a great producer of sparkling wines, however it is now increasingly producing more and more quality red wines at a fraction of the price of French wines. The Castilio Peralada gives a great indication of their great potential. You can pick up some great bargains. The local restaurants are more than willing to advise you on where to go and what to buy. While you are in Cadaques, try a blind test between the local Cava (at 7 Euro/bottle) and French Champagne, then bring home a few bottles.
The Market in Cadaques is held every Monday Morning from 9 a.m. till 1.00 p.m. Here the locals and visitors, in the know, shop for their fresh fruit, vegetables, cheeses and meats. If you arrive in Cadaques on a Saturday, it is worth finding out where it is as you will always see produce there that you will not see in a supermarket. If you follow the dry river bed (a concrete road) from the sea-front beside the Casino "upriver" you will come across it after 200 meters.
